Frequently Asked Painting Questions Regarding Estimates:
Can you give me a "ballpark" estimate for my house over the phone? No. Each individual project is different. We must take a look at your project in person to collect all the information we need prior to giving you a well informed, professional estimate. Do we have to be present for you to look at our exterior project? Ideally, yes. We would like the opportunity to introduce ourselves and also address any specific concerns you may have regarding your home. All buying parties should be present to avoid miscommunication during the project. In the event that you can not be present, we will do our best to assess the project and get back to you with any questions. How long will it take for us to receive our estimate? A typical "turn around" time for a proposal is 24-48 hours depending on the size of your project. We don't just "shoot you a number" when we look at your project. We take the time to make sure all the details are included to avoid any surprise charges during your project. This is probably the most important question of them all. Yes, we are "fully" insured, which means we carry Liability Insurance and Workers' Compensation Insurance. This protects you and your home and us. Don't take the risk...ask for proof of current insurance certificates or contact information. Great question. No. We use our own employees. This avoids any miscommunication about project schedules and allows us to maintain control of every aspect of your project. Helpful tip: If a contractor does use subcontractors, EACH subcontractor must provide proof of insurance. What can I expect to receive with my estimate? Along with your detailed estimate, you will receive a little about our company, a "buyers guide" to assist you in choosing the right contractor for your job, warranty information, current insurance contact information, a list of references you may contact and some other helpful information regarding preparation, products and applications. Is it cheaper if we supply the paint? No. In fact, as a contractor we receive a higher discount because of the volume we purchase. We use only high quality primers and paints. Will powerwashing damage my home? Our employees have been trained to properly operate a powerwasher. Different surfaces require different cleaners and amounts of pressure. An untrained person can easily injure themselves and also damage property very quickly. My house has aluminum/vinyl siding, can it be painted? Yes it can. There are some limitations concerning color selection. A professional painting contractor is knowledgeable about the proper primer and paints required to paint these types of siding. Aluminum/vinyl siding, when painted properly, will last a long time because moisture doesn't damage it as easily, as compared to wood siding. How will you protect my flowers and plants? We protect your plantings during powerwashing by rinsing them thoroughly before and after the process. Some chemicals used could damage your plantings if not rinsed. During the painting process, we will cover your plantings and valuables with drop cloths, paper, tape and/or plastic. We respect the time and money you have invested in your home and will do everything we can to protect them. We require that all plantings be trimmed prior to our arrival. After you powerwash my home, how long until you start painting? Time between powerwashing and the start of your project can differ greatly. Weather is the first condition that can lengthen this time. However, we will check your home's moisture content with a "moisture meter". When the moisture has fallen within the 12-15% range on all sides of the structure, only then will we apply any coatings. Our furniture is too heavy to move, what do we do? We are more than happy to move your furniture for you. In fact, it's easier for us to complete your project more efficiently because we can best maneuver it so it will be out of the way. We do prefer that you remove all wall hangings and remove valuables prior to our arrival. The less there is in our workspace, the better we can serve you. We can give you numerous ideas when it comes to color. Our experience with different size rooms and architectural features allows us to give you guidance towards your ultimate color choice and location. Also look at our "Choosing Colors" section for more information. Our bathroom always seems to get mildew on the walls, how do we prevent this? Mildew is often seen in areas of high moisture. There are specific paints that are recommended for high moisture areas such as bathrooms. These paints inhibit the growth of mildew and allow for easier cleaning of the walls due to buildup of moisture. An exhaust fan installed in the bathroom that is vented to the exterior is the most effective way of reducing moisture. Can you paint textured (popcorn) ceilings? Well, I wish this question was a yes or no answer, but it depends on a few factors. In general, yes you can, assuming the surface that was textured was properly primed. However, if proper prep was not followed the textured may come off when the roller is used to apply the paint. A sprayer may be utilized, but the prep work is greatly increased to protect furniture, walls, trim and carpet. A case by case evaluation is always needed.
